Wise - Sep 23-26 - Let Freedom Ring - War Bird Airshow - Let Freedom Ring - a salute to Veterans will be held at the Lonesome
Pine Airport, Wise, VA on September 23 through September 26, 2010 from 9 am untel 6 pm daily. Our special guest will be the C-54
of the Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation. Tours will be conducted of this flying museum which took part in the Berlin Airlift during

Forest - Sep 25 - Museum Day, sponsored by Smithsonian Magazine - Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest will participate in
"Museum Day," a day when museums and cultural institutions nationwide open their doors free of charge to SMITHSONIAN

barn storming, wing walker, and biplane demonstrations, acrobatics, and flights. Plus, there are antique auto, aircraft displays,

Buena Vista - Sep 17 - Buena Vista's Art on the Avenue - Quarterly artwalk in downtown Buena Vista. Artists, musicians, and others
will be out and about - in businesses, on the sidewalk, and around town. This event will culminate in a wonderful experience of
music, visual art and lots of fun and double as an inexpensive family outing, date or fun night out on the town with friends.



Hampton Roads

Williamsburg - Sep 2 - Princes without a Palace: Tracing African Princes and Captives in Williamsburg - Princes without a Palace
overviews the roles Africa, Europe and North America played in the Atlantic slave trade. Thousands of African captives, including
princes, were forced to migrate to Virginia. This program is part of Colonial Williamsburg’s Equiano Forum on early African
American History and Culture. $

Virginia Beach - Sep 3-5 - The Verizon Wireless American Music Festival - Nearly 50 concerts explode over stages all across the
Virginia Beach oceanfront with music that touches every generation and style. The Verizon Wireless American Music Festival
features national acts, and is also a showcase for some of the most popular local and regional bands. Tickets are required for
certain concerts on the main stage. $

Suffolk - Sep 11 - Taste of Suffolk: A Downtown Street Festival - Experience the music, art, history and food of downtown Suffolk
with this family-friendly event. Free and open to the public, the Taste of Suffolk downtown street festival will combine live
entertainment, crafters, and fest food with historical interpreters, exhibits and sidewalk sales.

Norfolk - Sep 18 - Acoustic Music Festival, 5th Annual - This fabulous free music event is a perfect way to spend a fall afternoon
and evening! In its 5th year, the Acoustic Music Festival is one of Hampton Roads “must attend” music events with 8 hours of live
musical concerts on 3-stages performed by the regions best-known and soon to be known acoustic musicians.

Virginia Beach - Sep 18-19 - Oceana Air Show - At the award-winning Naval Air Station Oceana Air Show, enjoy the power and
precision of the breathtaking U.S. Navy Blue Angels as well as thrilling aerobatics from the world's top civilian performers. Marvel
at the awesome might of U.S. military aircraft like the F/A-18C Hornet, the F/A-18E Super Hornet, the E-2C Hawkeye and be sure not
to miss the smoke and thunder of the Shockwave Jet Truck.

Newport News - Sep 25-26 - Military Vehicle Show - A variety of vintage military vehicles will be on display, including a German half-
track, an ambulance, an armored car, jeeps, and military motorcycles. Vendors will be selling insignia, books, uniforms, and
accoutrements. A special auction will be held on Saturday, beginning at 6pm. Admission is free to the show and museum.

Norfolk - Sep 25-26 - Romeo and Juliet at Chrysler Hall - A love forbidden. And a love immortal. Shakespeare's timeless tragedy
inspired Hector Berlioz' rapturous, romantic "Romeo and Juliet." JoAnn Falletta leads the impassioned orchestral excerpts from
the heart of Berlioz' dramatic symphony in a concert also featuring one of Mozart's great final piano concertos. $

Mathews - Sep 10-11 - Mathews Market Days Festival - The Annual Mathews Market Days Festival showcases more than 75 booths
displaying local arts and crafts, tempting taste treats, musical entertainment and more. Highlighting the local talent will be the
Mathews Art Group fine art exhibit.

Jamaica - Sep 18 - USA 100 - Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series - This is a must see event! The Lucas Oil series is one of the premier
national dirt late model touring series and always put on an exciting event. Chris Madden is the defending race winner. $


Kilmarnock - Sep 24-26 - 5th Annual Northern Neck RiverRide - Join with nearly 800 other cycling enthusiasts on a tour of this
special and unique peninsula located between the Rappahannock and Potomac Rivers. $

Onancock - Sep 10-11 - Onancock Harborfest - Come to this 1680 wharf town for the annual family fun event. Food, contests,
music, small boat races, critter parade, and a rubber duck race are highlights.

Belle Haven - Sep 25 - ESO Shore Made Music Festival - This is an all day music event of local entertainers. Music starts around 11

Fredericksburg - Sep 18 - Stafford Regional Airport Fly-In - 6th Annual - Celebrate the 6th annual Fly-In event at Stafford Regional
Airport. This festival typically features an aircraft fly-in and car show, with other vehicle displays and lots of family entertainment.

enables low-income families to buy nutritious food with coupons and Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards. SNAP recipients
spend their benefits to buy eligible food in authorized retail food stores. The program is the cornerstone of the food assistance
programs, and provides crucial support to needy households and to those making the transition from welfare to work.
General Program Requirements
In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of the state of Virginia and fall into one of two groups: (1) those
with a current bank balance (savings and checking combined) under $2,001, or (2) those with a current bank balance (savings and
checking combined) under $3,001 who share their household with a person or persons age 60 and over, or with a person with a
disability (a child, your spouse, a parent, or yourself). For either group, you must also have an annual household income of less than
$14,079 if one person lives in the household; $18,941 if two people live in the household; $23,803 if three people live in the
household; $28,665 if four people live in the household; $33,527 if five people live in the household; $38,389 if six people live in the
household; $43,251 if seven people live in the household; or $48,113 if eight people live in the household. For larger households, add

Program Description
The Virginia Summer Meals for Kids program provides nutritious meals to children who would normally receive free or reduced
price meals when school is in session. This helps children to maintain a nutritious diet and helps their families to stretch their food
dollars during the summer months.

The program is offered in many and various locations such as parks, playgrounds, housing authorities, day camps, churches,
community centers, etc. Often the meal service is combined with learning and recreational activities for the children.
General Program Requirements
In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of the State of Virginia, your household's annual income before
taxes must not exceed $20,036 if one person lives in the household; $26,955 if two people live in the household; $33,874 if three
people live in the household; $40,793 if four people live in the household; $47,712 if five people live in the household; $54,631 if six
people live in the household; $61,550 if seven people live in the household and $68,469 if eight people live in the household. For
larger households, add $6,919 for each additional person in the home.

Medicaid is the state and Federal partnership that provides medical coverage to eligible needy persons. The purpose of Virginia
Medicaid is to improve the health of people in Virginia who might otherwise go without medical care for themselves and their
children.
General Program Requirements
In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of the state of Virginia, a US national, citizen, permanent
resident, or legal alien, in need of health care/insurance assistance, whose financial situation would be characterized as low
income or very low income. You must also be either pregnant, a parent or relative caretaker of a dependent child(ren) under age
19, blind, have a disability or a family member in your household with a disability, or be 65 years of age or older.

Program Description
The Food Stamp Program serves as the first line of defense against hunger for Virginia Residents. It enables low-income families
to buy nutritious food with coupons and Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards. Food stamp recipients spend their benefits to buy
eligible food in authorized retail food stores. The Program is the cornerstone of the food assistance programs, and provides
crucial support to needy households and to those making the transition from welfare to work.
General Program Requirements
In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of the State of Virginia and fall into one of two groups: (1) those
with a current bank balance (savings and checking combined) under $2,001, or (2) those with a current bank balance (savings and
checking combined) under $3,001 who share their household with a person or persons age 60 and over, or with a person with a
disability (a child, your spouse, a parent, or yourself). For either group, you must also have an annual household income of less than
$13,284 if one person lives in the household; $17,808 if two people live in the household; $22,332 if three people live in the
household; $26,856 if four people live in the household; $31,380 if five people live in the household; $35,904 if six people live in the
household; $40,428 if seven people live in the household; or $44,952 if more than seven people live in the household.

The Energy Assistance Program is comprised of four components: Fuel Assistance, Crisis Assistance, Cooling Assistance and
Weatherization. The Energy Assistance Program assists low-income households, particularly those with the lowest incomes that
pay a high proportion of household income for home energy.

In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of the State of Virginia, you must need financial assistance for
home energy costs and your household's annual income before taxes must not exceed $13,284 if one person lives in the

Program Description
The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children is funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture
and is operated through local health departments, satellite and mobile clinics in Virginia. The Virginia WIC Program serves low-
income pregnant, lactating and postpartum women and children up to age five.
General Program Requirements
In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of the State of Virginia, pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum
woman, infant or child up to 5 years of age and: (1) are individually determined by a health professional to be at nutrition risk; and,
(2) meet an income standard, or are determined automatically income eligible. A person who participates or has family members
who participate in certain other benefit programs, such as the Food Stamp Program, Medicaid or Temporary Assistance for Needy
Families, automatically meets the income eligibility requirement.

Program Description
The Special Milk Program provides milk to children in schools, childcare institutions and eligible camps that do not participate in
other Federal child nutrition meal service programs. Schools that participate in the National School Lunch or School Breakfast
Programs can participate in the Special Milk Program for half-day kindergarten and pre-kindergarten children who do not have
access to a school meals program. The program reimburses schools and institutions for the milk they serve.
General Program Requirements
Any child in a school or institution that participates in the Special Milk Program can get milk. Schools may elect to offer free milk to
low-income children. In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of the State of West Virginia, your
household's annual income before taxes must not exceed $20,036 if one person lives in the household; $26,955 if two people live in
the household; $33,874 if three people live in the household; $40,793 if four people live in the household; $47,712 if five people live in
the household; $54,631 if six people live in the household; $61,550 if seven people live in the household; and $68,469 if eight people
live in the household. For larger households, add $6,919 for each additional person in the home.

Program Description
The Head Start program (for children ages 3-5) and Early Head Start program (for pregnant women, infants, and toddlers) promote
school readiness for children in low-income families by providing comprehensive educational, health, nutritional, and social
services. Parents play a large role in the programs, both as primary educators of their children and as participants in
administering the programs locally. Both programs provide pre-literacy and literacy experiences in a multi-cultural environment.
Parents are also provided social services, including assistance with childcare. Services are also available to migrant and seasonal
farm worker families.
General Program Requirements
In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of the State of Virginia, you must be a parent or primary
caregiver responsible for a child who is too young for public school and your household's annual income before taxes must not
exceed $10,830 if one person lives in the household; $14,570 if two people live in the household; $18,310 if three people live in the
household; $22,050 if four people live in the household; $25,790 if five people live in the household; $29,530 if six people live in the
household; $33,270 if seven people live in the household; $37,010 if eight people live in the household; and $40,750 if more than
eight people live in the household. For larger households, add $3,740 for each additional person in the home.

If you do not meet these criteria, you may still qualify if you are a U.S. national, citizen or permanent resident whose financial status
is low income or very low income, who is under-employed, unemployed or about to become unemployed, facing pregnancy, less
than 19 years of age yourself, or the parent or primary caregiver for children under the age of 19 years. Other qualifications may
apply.

the 18th century. Children are encouraged to try their hand at many of the farm chores, such as feeding the animals, repairing
fences and churning butter!

48. Jamestown Settlement in Williamsburg is the story of America's first permanent English colony. Children love seeing the
replicas of the three ships that sailed from England to Virginia in 1607. Other highlights include the colonists' fort and a Powhatan

49. Pamplin Historical Park & The National Museum of the Civil WarSoldier in Petersburg is one of the nation's finest Civil War
attractions. The 422-acre park has museums, a plantation home, living history demonstrations, battle reenactments and camp

50. Historic Crab Orchard Museum & Pioneer Park in Tazewell features Southwest Virginia from prehistoric times to the present.

51. Frontier Culture Museum in Staunton features life on four different farms -- German, Scots-Irish, English and American. Kids
love watching the farm animals and the farmers doing their chores. Special reenactments take place depending upon the season,
such as how various holidays were celebrated and how the farmers prepared for the winter, sowing and reaping seasons.
