Take your mark for special events in northern Nevada. Wake up with the roosters to witness the marvelous sight of more than
100 brightly colored hot air balloons rising slowly with the morning sun. The Great Reno Balloon Race is September 10-12, 2010,
at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park in Reno. Just north of Reno at the Reno-Stead Airfield, six classes of aircraft will race to
the home pylon at the 47th National Championship Air Races & Air Show, September 15-19, 2010. And in the historic town of
Virginia City, camels and ostriches hit the racetrack at the Virginia City International Camel Races, September 10-12, 2010. The
antics continue at Virginia City’s World Championship Outhouse Races, October 2-3, 2010, where teams in costume race
against each other as one person rides and the remaining team members manage to push, pull or drag the outhouse quickly
down the track. It’s a hilariously good time on the Comstock. More events here.

A visit to the small town of Genoa in late September is always a treat for your sweet tooth as the Town of Genoa hosts the 90th
annual Candy Dance Arts and Crafts Faire. The volunteers have already started making Genoa’s famous homemade candy that
will be sold as a fundraiser for the town. The popular event also features more than 300 arts and craft exhibitors and food
vendors. New this year is the Genoa Western Art Gallery, which will host some of the finest western artists. The Faire is
Saturday and Sunday, September 25 and 26, 2010, and admission is free. As the namesake implies, there’s also a dinner dance
Saturday night featuring David John and the Comstock Cowboys and Wylie and the Wild West. More info here.

Treat your taste buds to international cuisine at food festivals held in Las Vegas and Reno. Three major Italian festivals are
coming up, starting with the Italian Festival Laughlin, September 3-5, 2010, at the Edgewater Hotel Casino. Las Vegas’ 31st
annual San Gennaro Feast takes place at the Silverton Casino and Lodge from September 14-19, 2010, and Eldorado Hotel
Casino hosts the Eldorado Great Italian Festival, October 9-10, 2010. Greek foodies delight because Nevada also has your flavor.
The Las Vegas Greek Food Festival brings all the aromas, sounds, tastes, and traditions of Greece to Las Vegas September 24-
26, 2010. The 37th annual festival will make you want to yell OPA! More events here.

The sites may have nothing to do with the existence of spirits, but Nevada’s ghost towns have a spirited tale to tell of the Silver
State’s boom-and-bust past. The once bustling town of Rhyolite, near Beatty, is one of Nevada’s most visited ghost towns today.
Among the ruins dating back to 1905 is Tom Kelly’s Bottle House – a structure built using roughly 30,000 bottles. At another site
west of Tonopah, rock ruins, including those of a bank, remain along with some wooden structures and a cemetery in the ghost
town of Candelaria. The town boomed in the early 1800s at the discovery of silver in nearby hills. The September/October issue
of Nevada Magazine features several of Nevada’s most rugged ghost towns.

The streets of northern Nevada will be filled with gleaming chrome, artistic paint jobs, and lots of leather as thousands of
motorcyclists roar into town for the 16th annual Street Vibrations Motorcycle Festival, September 22-26, 2010. The celebration
of music, metal and motorcycles offers organized tours, poker runs, concerts, parades, stunt shows, and more. Major event
venues will be held at Harley-Davidson dealerships in Carson City and Reno, and special events are also planned in historic
Virginia City and beautiful Lake Tahoe. Don’t miss America’s Finest Custom Bike Builders’ Expo to view the latest creations and
the Tattoo Expo for an elaborate display of body art. Street Vibrations is open to all motorcycles. Event info here.

More than 40,000 motorcyclists couldn’t be wrong. Join in the fun at the 10th anniversary of Las Vegas Bike Fest, September 30
through October 3, 2010. The four-day event features a $10,000 poker run, custom bike show, Miss & Mr. Las Vegas BikeFest
competitions, a 2011 Harley-Davidson grand prize giveaway, live entertainment, and more. Don’t miss Artistry in Iron, Master
Builders’ Championship, where you will see 20 unique creations dreamed up by the most progressive builders in the world. If
you’re in the market for a new bike or a little something special, be sure to stop by the 250-plus vendor booths selling custom
bikes, production motorcycles, parts and accessories, and apparel. Las Vegas travel deals here.

It is short notice, but if you don’t have any plans for Labor Day weekend, head to Victorian Square in Sparks for the tastiest ribs
and barbeque fare, plus refreshing beverages, outdoor concerts, craft booths and hot end-of-summer fun! The 22nd annual
Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-off runs September 1-6, 2010. Come hungry because there will be more than 100 tons of
slow-cooked, barbeque-sauce-soaked, tender, meaty ribs for your finger-licking pleasure. Sample the secret recipes for
sauces, rubs and more from the finest rib cookers in the nation as they compete for the coveted title of “Best in the West.” It’s
no doubt among the tastiest of Nevada’s special events. Lodging here.

This ride takes you through the Paiute Indian Reservation and Indian Springs, home of Creech Air Force Base and the Predator
reconnaissance aircraft. Make it a day trip or stay at a bed and breakfast in Crystal or a hotel in Pahrump. At Mountain Springs
enjoy the winding mountain road and outstanding desert scenery.

The Ride (157 miles): On US 95 head north from Las Vegas to SR 160, 69 miles. Follow SR 160 to mile marker 32 and turn right
to Crystal, eight miles round trip from SR 160. Follow SR 160 south to Pahrump and Mountain Springs and back to Las Vegas, 80
miles.

*****************************************************

On your next trip to Nevada, take time out from all of your exciting adventures to soak in a steamy hot spring. Treat yourself to
magnificent views of the Sierra Nevada while soaking in one of seven mineral pools or the freshwater relaxation pool at David
Walley's Resort, Hot Springs & Spa in charming Genoa. In central Nevada, visit Spencer Hot Springs in the town of Austin. At
Ash Springs near Alamo, you can swim in the public pools at Little Ash. The Alkali Hot Springs northwest of Goldfield has two
springs that are big enough for three to four people. And in Beatty, there are three private bath houses available at Bailey's Hot
Springs. Water temperatures vary; please use caution and respect posted signs. More info here.

It's not every day that a museum gets a Picasso. The 20th century Modern artist's 1913 painting, Musical Instruments and Fruit
Bowl on a Pedestal, is exclusively on loan to the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno until November 28, 2010. The painting
epitomizes all of the characteristics for which the Cubist style is best known, and fragments of a traditional still-life
composition are identifiable. The museum is also hosting the 26th Annual Taste for Art on August 20, 2010. Enjoy premium
wines and delicious cuisine from more than 45 wineries and restaurants including Rombauer Vineyards, Silver Oak Cellars,
Charlie Palmer Steak, Washoe Steakhouse, and Briscola.
