Program Description
The Kansas Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) is a nutrition education program that
provides nutrition education, including breastfeeding support; healthy foods and referrals to health and social services free of
charge to Kansas families who qualify. WIC staff will review health behaviors and diet; provide individual nutrition education; support
families making changes for better health and offer a selection of healthy foods.
General Program Requirements
In order to receive Kansas WIC services, you must live in Kansas and be pregnant, or have had a baby in the last six months, or be
an infant or child under age five. Families must also have income at or below the maximum WIC income guidelines and have
nutritional needs. County WIC staff will help to determine your eligibility. If you or a family member receive benefits from Medicaid,
Temporary Assistance for Families, or the Food Assistance Program, you may be income eligible for WIC. Please visit http://www.

Program Description
The Kansas Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) is a Federally funded program that helps eligible households pay a
portion of their home energy costs. Benefit levels vary according to the following factors: 1) Household income, 2) number of
persons living at the address, 3) type of dwelling, 4) type of heating fuel, and 5) utility rates.
General Program Requirements
In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of the state of Kansas, you must need financial assistance for
home energy costs and your household's annual income before taxes must not exceed $13,538 if one person lives in the
household; $18,213 if two people live in the household; $22,888 if three people live in the household; $27,563 if four people live in the
household; $32,238 if five people live in the household; $36,913 if six people live in the household; $41,588 if seven people live in the
household, or $46,263 if eight people live in the household. For larger households, add $4,675 for each additional person in the home.

Program Description
The Food Assistance Program is a nutrition assistance program, which provides a Vision card (plastic debit card) to eligible
persons for use in purchasing food from local grocery stores. Complete information regarding food assistance eligibility can be
obtained by contacting your nearest Social and Rehabilitation Services Office. Any single individual or household group whose
income and resources are low and who meet certain basic program requirements can qualify. THE FOOD STAMP PROGRAM IS
AVAILABLE TO ALL ELIGIBLE PERSONS REGARDLESS OF RACE, COLOR, CREED, SEX, AGE, NATIONAL ORIGIN, POLITICAL BELIEFS,
OR HANDICAPS. There are specific eligibility requirements in Kansas and in every state. You must work with the Department of
Social and Rehabilitations Services to apply and confirm your eligibility.
General Program Requirements
In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of the State of Kansas and fall into one of two groups: (1) those
with a current bank balance (savings and checking combined) under $2,001, or (2) those with a current bank balance (savings and
checking combined) under $3,001 who share their household with a person or persons age 60 and over, or with a person with a
disability (a child, your spouse, a parent, or yourself). For either group, you must also have an annual household income of less than
$13,284 if one person lives in the household; $17,808 if two people live in the household; $22,332 if three people live in the
household; $26,856 if four people live in the household; $31,380 if five people live in the household; $35,904 if six people live in the
household; $40,428 if seven people live in the household; or $44,952 if more than seven people live in the household.

The School Breakfast and Lunch Programs make nutritionally balanced, low-cost or free meals available to school children each
school day. Over 92,000 schools offer lunches at school, and nearly 70,000 schools offer breakfast at school nationwide. School
breakfasts and lunches must meet the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and Federal nutrition standards. Some schools offer
afterschool snacks to children in the school's afterschool care programs.
General Program Requirements
In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of the State of Kansas and a parent or primary caregiver
responsible for a child(ren) who attends school (high school or under). Those who qualify must also have an annual household
income before taxes that must not exceed $26,955 if two people live in the household; $33,874 if three people live in the household;
$40,793 if four people live in the household; $47,712 if five people live in the household; $54,631 if six people live in the household;
$61,550 if seven people live in the household; and $68,469 if eight people live in the household. For larger households, add $6,919 for
each additional person in the home.

Kansas Healthwave offers affordable, low-cost health insurance for the uninsured children of Kansas. Some low-income parents
may also qualify for health coverage.
Applicants are screened for Medicaid eligibility to determine the funding source. You may also be eligible for coverage of existing
medical bills.

In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of Kansas, under 19 years of age, not covered by health
insurance (including Medicaid), a US national, citizen, legal alien, or permanent resident, and you must have an annual household
income before taxes of less than $29,140 if two people live in the household; $36,620 if three people live in the household; $44,100 if
four people live in the household; $51,580 if five people live in the household; $59,060 if six people live in the household; $66,540 if
seven people live in the household; $74,020 if eight people live in the household; and $81,500 if more than eight people live in the
household. For larger households, add $7,480 for each additional person in the home. Depending on your income level, you may

Program Description
The Special Milk Program (SMP) provides milk to children in schools and non-profit childcare institutions that do not participate in
other Federal child nutrition meal service programs. Schools in the National School Lunch or School Breakfast Programs may also
participate in the SMP to provide milk to children in half-day pre-kindergarten and kindergarten programs where children do not
have access to the school meal programs. The program reimburses institutions for the milk they serve.
General Program Requirements
Any child in a school or institution that participates in the Special Milk Program can get milk. Schools may elect to offer free milk to
low-income children. In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of the State of Kansas, your household's

Program Description
The Head Start program (for children ages 3-5) and Early Head Start program (for pregnant women, infants, and toddlers) promote
school readiness for children in low-income families by providing comprehensive educational, health, nutritional, and social
services. Parents play a large role in the programs, both as primary educators of their children and as participants in administering
the programs locally. Both programs provide pre-literacy and literacy experiences in a multi-cultural environment. Parents are also
provided social services, including assistance with childcare. Services are also available to migrant and seasonal farm worker
families.
General Program Requirements
In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of the State of Kansas, you must be a parent or primary caregiver
responsible for a child who is too young for public school and your household's annual income before taxes must not exceed
$10,830 if one person lives in the household; $14,570 if two people live in the household; $18,310 if three people live in the
household; $22,050 if four people live in the household; $25,790 if five people live in the household; $29,530 if six people live in the
household; $33,270 if seven people live in the household; $37,010 if eight people live in the household; and $40,750 if more than eight
people live in the household. For larger households, add $3,740 for each additional person in the home.
If you do not meet these criteria, you may still qualify if you are a U.S. national, citizen or permanent resident whose financial status
is low income or very low income, who is under-employed, unemployed or about to become unemployed, facing pregnancy, less
than 19 years of age yourself, or the parent or primary caregiver for children under the age of 19 years. Other qualifications may
apply.

The Kansas Weatherization Assistance Program (K-WAP) operates year round and is an energy conservation program that helps
qualified households pay for home weatherization needs. Stop getting zapped by those high-energy bills. Take steps toward
conserving energy and lowering utility bills by applying for weatherization today.
The elderly, disabled, or those with at least one child in the home are identified as a special population which deems them a priority
when a waiting list for services develops. Emergency situations also receive priority (e.g., furnace tests positive for carbon
monoxide).

Milford Reservoir, State Park, and Wildlife Area
Largest lake in Kansas and the largest KDWP Public Hunting Land.
Its central location and proximity to Junction City, I-70, and HWY 77 make it a favorite spot for outdoor recreationists. Boaters,
campers, anglers and hunters all make use of the park and surrounding area, and the vast natural area and nature trails make
Milford a great choice for the naturalist.
Elk City Reservoir, State Park, and Wildlife Area
The Table Mound, a limestone bluff, makes up part of the landscape.
The area is well known for its diverse trail systems, including the Eagle Rock Mountain Bike Trail, the Post-Oak and Green Thumb
Nature Trails, the Table Mound Hiking Trail, and the Squaw Creek Hiking Trail. The 857 acre park is located on the east shore of the
4,500 acre lake with 12,000 acres of wildlife nearby. Also nearby is the Elk River Hiking Trail, a 15-mile trail from the west end of the
dam to the highway 160 bridge on the Elk River south of the town of Elk City.
