Georgia's Division of Family and Children Services offers the Regular Home Energy Assistance program to individuals who need
financial assistance in the form of locally issued checks to home energy suppliers on behalf of eligible households.
The amount of assistance to both homeowners and non-subsidized renters who receive a bill for their fuel cost will depend on the
projected total gross annual household income, household size and payment schedule or increased cost of home heating energy.
Subsidized housing tenants whose fuel cost is included in their rental payment are ineligible to receive assistance. These
households are considered to be the least vulnerable for home energy assistance.
General Program Requirements
In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of the State of Georgia, you must need financial assistance for
home energy costs and your household's annual income before taxes must not exceed $21,660 if one person lives in the
household; $29,140 if two people live in the household; $36,620 if three people live in the household; $44,100 if four people live in
the household; $51,580 if five people live in the household; $59,060 if six people live in the household; $66,540 if seven people live in
the household, or $74,020 if eight people live in the household. For larger households, add $7,480 for each additional person in the
home.

The Georgia Food Stamp program provides monthly benefits to low-income households to help pay for the cost of food. A
household may be one person living alone, a family, or several, unrelated individuals living together who routinely purchase and
prepare meals together. Anyone may apply for food stamp benefits. The program helps households that have limited income and
resources.
General Program Requirements
In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of the State of Georgia and fall into one of two groups: (1) those
with a current bank balance (savings and checking combined) under $2,001, or (2) those with a current bank balance (savings and
checking combined) under $3,001 who share their household with a person or persons age 60 and over, or with a person with a
disability (a child, your spouse, a parent, or yourself). For either group, you must also have an annual household income of less than
$13,284 if one person lives in the household; $17,808 if two people live in the household; $22,332 if three people live in the

school day. It is a grant-in-aid to schools to help defray the cost of school meals. School breakfasts and lunches must meet the
Dietary Guidelines for Americans and Federal nutrition standards. Some schools offer afterschool snacks to children in the
school's afterschool care programs.

Program Description
In 1997, Congress created Title XXI of the Social Security Act to provide health care for the growing number of uninsured children
in the United States. This legislation provided states with the opportunity to create programs to increase access to affordable
health insurance. In Georgia, this program is PeachCare for Kids. PeachCare for Kids began covering children in 1999, providing
comprehensive health care to children through the age of 18 who do not qualify for Medicaid and live in households with incomes
at or below 235% of the Federal poverty level. PeachCare for Kids health benefits include: care from a doctor when your child is
sick; preventive services such as immunizations and regular check-ups; specialist care; dental care; vision care, including vision
screenings and eyeglasses; hospitalization; emergency room services; prescription medications; and mental health care. Each
child in the program has a Georgia Better Health Care primary care provider who coordinates the child's care. There is no cost to
families for children under age 5. Starting at age 6, premiums are $10.00 per child. For two or more children, your premium will be
either $15 or $20, depending on your household income. Once you complete the application, information about paying your
premium and the amount will be provided to you. In addition to being a Georgia resident, children must be US citizens or a qualified
alien in order to receive benefits under the PeachCare for Kids program. Legal immigrants who arrived in the US on or after August
22, 1996 must have lived in the US for five years to be eligible. Some exceptions to the citizenship requirements do exist so work
with the PeachCare for Kids program staff to determine whether you or your children are eligible.
General Program Requirements
In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of Georgia, under 19 years of age, not covered by health
insurance (including Medicaid), a US citizen or qualified legal resident, and you must have an annual household income before
taxes of less than $34,240 if two people live in the household; $43,029 if three people live in the household; $51,818 if four people
live in the household; $60,607 if five people live in the household; $69,396 if six people live in the household; $78,185 if seven people
live in the household; $86,974 if eight people live in the household; and $95,763 if more than eight people live in the household. For

Program Description
The WIC Program provides supplemental foods, nutrition education and referrals to health care, at no cost, to low-income
pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are determined to be at nutritional risk. To
be fully eligible for the WIC Program, applicants must be determined by a health professional, at no cost, to be at nutritional risk (i.
e., have certain medical-based or diet-based risk conditions).
General Program Requirements
In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of the State of Georgia, pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum
woman, infant or child up to 5 years of age and: (1) are individually determined by a health professional to be at nutrition risk; and,
(2) meet an income standard, or are determined automatically income eligible. A person who participates or has family members
who participate in certain other benefit programs, such as the Food Stamp Program, Medicaid or Temporary Assistance for Needy
Families, automatically meets the income eligibility requirement.

The Special Milk Program provides milk to children in schools, childcare institutions, and eligible camps that do not participate in
other Federal child nutrition meal service programs. Schools that participate in the National School Lunch or School Breakfast
Programs, can participate in the Special Milk Program for half-day kindergarten and pre-kindergarten children who do not have
access to a school meals program. The program reimburses schools and institutions for the milk they serve.

Any child in a school or institution that participates in the Special Milk Program can get milk. Schools may elect to offer free milk to

Head Start is a national program that provides comprehensive developmental services for low-income preschool children and their
families. Currently funded at approximately $4.3 billion nationally, Head Start serves over 750,000 children and their families each
year.
In Georgia, Head Start programs serve nearly 20,000 3, 4 and 5-year-old children in 33 different programs covering 157 of Georgia's
159 counties. The program in Georgia is designed to address developmental goals for children, employment and self-sufficiency
goals for adults, and support for parents in their work and in their roles as parents.

In order to qualify for this benefit program, you must be a resident of the State of Georgia, you must be a parent or primary
caregiver responsible for a child who is too young for public school and your household's annual income before taxes must not
exceed $10,830 if one person lives in the household; $14,570 if two people live in the household; $18,310 if three people live in the

Weatherization is a term which means "to make your home more energy efficient." In Georgia, the purpose of this program is to
make necessary energy-related repairs free of charge to income-eligible households. The first step in this process is for you to
call or write the Community Action Agency or another non-profit organization listed below that serves your community. They will be
able to quickly decide if you are eligible. If you qualify, a skilled technician will visit your home to assess it for heat loss. They will
look at all heat loss problems to decide what energy repairs are needed, such as caulking, fixing broken windowpanes, and
weatherstripping. Next, the attic will be checked to see if additional insulation is needed. Your home will be checked to see if any
other energy savings are required to help reduce your energy use. However, there may be a short waiting period for this service.
Just by installing some of these simple energy savings measures, household energy can be reduced substantially.
Priority is given to the elderly and handicapped, especially those that own or are buying their homes. Services to these groups will
be handled as quickly as possible. Rental property can be weatherized with a signed agreement from the landlord.

Program Description
Georgia Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) is the monthly cash assistance program for poor families with children

become self-sufficient, and leave the program as soon as possible. These work activities help recipients gain the experience

The Special Milk Program provides milk to children in schools, childcare institutions, and eligible camps that do not participate in
other Federal child nutrition meal service programs. Schools that participate in the National School Lunch or School Breakfast
Programs, can participate in the Special Milk Program for half-day kindergarten and pre-kindergarten children who do not have
access to a school meals program. The program reimburses schools and institutions for the milk they serve.

Any child in a school or institution that participates in the Special Milk Program can get milk. Schools may elect to offer free milk to

Weatherization is a term which means "to make your home more energy efficient." In Georgia, the purpose of this program is to
make necessary energy-related repairs free of charge to income-eligible households. The first step in this process is for you to
call or write the Community Action Agency or another non-profit organization listed below that serves your community. They will be
able to quickly decide if you are eligible. If you qualify, a skilled technician will visit your home to assess it for heat loss. They will
look at all heat loss problems to decide what energy repairs are needed, such as caulking, fixing broken windowpanes, and
weatherstripping. Next, the attic will be checked to see if additional insulation is needed. Your home will be checked to see if any
other energy savings are required to help reduce your energy use. However, there may be a short waiting period for this service.
Just by installing some of these simple energy savings measures, household energy can be reduced substantially.
Priority is given to the elderly and handicapped, especially those that own or are buying their homes. Services to these groups will
be handled as quickly as possible. Rental property can be weatherized with a signed agreement from the landlord.
